Objectives

  • focuses on development of key attributes and skills of senior and middle managers in public and private sector organisations.
  • designed to build individual management skills focusing on application to: manage and achieve the strategic goals of their work area particularly and organisation generally; consult across a broad range of business disciplines undergoing rapid change; demonstrate appropriate communication and leadership styles during rapid change.

  • improve communication systems within work area and the organisation

  • Study Flexibility - in line with universal-wide trends for shorter duration, high-intensity education programmes, the opportunity of accelerated study through a 3 trimester year. Considerable flexibility in selecting a study load, assisting in meeting all demands, ie work, family and sport.
  • Study Support - course material designed by specialist teams from within the University and outside. Printed study materials, readings and textbooks are supported by optional workshops, email groups, teletutorials and ready access to teaching staff and services

Teaching method
  • learning resources include a study guide, textbook/s, supplied readings, teletutorials and face-to-face workshops, as well as email discussion groups

  • use of cases which students will be encouraged to analyse and relate to their own working environment
  • commentary in the text and study guide and by lecturers on the application of principles of practice

  • close links with the private and public sector developed by both the SCU’s Graduate College of Management and MIT's Faculty of Business.
  • in partnership with Australia's premier telecom group, Telstra, SCU has developed accredited management programmes to MBA level.
  • Executive management courses in conjunction with the Australian Department of Defence and the Royal Australian Air Force.
  • agreement signed with the Australian Quality Council. Partnership seeks to develop fully articulated short courses that target specific industries and provide quality management qualifications at postgraduate level.
  • first university in the world to undertake the process of "Quality Committed Enterprise" accreditation.
  • Centre for Australian Regional and Enterprise Development (CARED) established in 1994 to coordinate research, consultancy and activities for enterprise and regional development practitioners.
